The residents of HRM have come through many obstacles over the last few months. Widespread and devastating forest fires followed by extensive flooding have taken over local communities, during a time of year that’s usually known for its beach trips and patio drinks. It will be a long road of renovations and rebuilds for many people, but hopefully some sun can start shining on them as the summer continues.
As August rolls in, take some time to enjoy the sunshine and the harbourside city with the many great activities going on all month long. I’ve rounded up a few favorites that are free or low cost so be sure to get out there to experience what summer in Halifax is all about!

The Halifax Mural Festival has done an excellent job of beautifying the city with stunning and creative pieces from artists all over the world. Visit their website for area maps of Quinpool Road, the “Hub”, and the Waterfront and take a walk around the neighborhood to view the pieces.
St. Georges Island
A little pricier than most of the activities on this list, but if you have a Park Canada Pass, you will just need to pay for the boat ride. Take a picnic, explore the island, and enjoy the views.
