Five on Friday: October 30
It’s one of my favorite times of the year, Halloween! Such a fun time for both children and adults. A chance to show off your creative side, or to step outside of your comfort zone and be something you’re not! Here is my Five on Friday for my favorite Halloween activities that we’ve done this week. Carving Pumpkins – Always a favorite! I’m not that creative so the designs are not elaborate, but I love the scooping out of the pumpkin! Such a great sensory experience for little ones, and once you clean up the seeds, they make a great snack. Painting Pumpkins – We save the carving for closer…

Monday Menu: October 26
The last week of October is here already. On the agenda this week are Halloween crafts, pumpkin carving and trial runs for costumes. This week’s Monday Menu contains quick favorites and easy slow cooker meals for nights when you’re short on time. Pulled Pork Tenderloin – Add a tenderloin to the slow cooker and cover in the sauce of your choice. When it’s done it will shred easily, then let it cook for a little while longer so it can soak up some sauce. Goes great on a bun with homemade coleslaw on the side. Hearty Vegetable Soup with Cheese Toast – Carrots, onions, corn, green beans, peas, diced potato, lentils for added…

Five On Friday: October 23
The busy week is coming to a close and I’m looking forward to the weekend! We have some exciting things planned for this weekend and both Mom and Dad have some fun one on one time planned with the girls. First up is a pretty cool field trip for Chloe and Dad, a sleepover at a Dinosaur Museum! They will be heading out around noon tomorrow for a road trip and will check into the Royal Tyrrell Museum at 7pm for programs and a sleepover. With them away, Kaiana and I will have a chance to enjoy some quality one on one time which may include swimming, walks and cuddling.…

Monday Menu: October 19
Another beautiful fall week is here and also the start of cold and flu season. Add lots of Vitamin C and antioxidant rich foods to your meals to help boost your immunity and keep you healthy. Here is my Monday Menu for this week with some immunity boosting meals. Beef, Broccoli and Rice – Start the week off with an immunity boosting supper. Saute diced onions, garlic and peppers with butter, add broccoli and cover, allowing the veggies to soften. Add beef strips and cook till veggies are tender Grilled Cheese with Mushroom Soup – Always a yummy favorite! Add some raw veggies and dip or a small side salad if…

Five on Friday: October 16
Flu season is upon us and with cooler weather and more indoor activities come more germs floating around in confined spaces. We all know the general rules for keeping sickness away – wash your hands, cough into your sleeve and if you’re feeling under the weather, just stay home and rest. But what about our diet? Our family is very lucky to have very little down time due to colds and flues and I attribute that mostly to our diet. For this week’s Five on Friday I’m taking a look at five foods that will help boost your immune system and hopefully keep you healthy this flu season. Garlic – You…

Monday Menu: October 12
It’s Thanksgiving weekend in Canada and families are preparing big meals. There’s bound to be lots left over so what are you going to do with it all? On this week’s Monday Menu there’s five ideas for using up your leftovers. Shepherd’s Pie – Have a mountain of mashed potatoes left? Brown ground beef, add onions, seasoning, carrots, peas or corn (add at the end if they are leftovers and already cooked). I like to add a cream soup or sour cream as the sauce with the meat, or you can go more traditional with broth and tomato paste. Turkey Club Wrap – I used to frequent a sandwich shop…

Toys That are Kid Approved and Kid Powered!
Christmas is only a few months away and the hunt for toys that will engage and hold your child’s interest is on. You want toys that are kid powered and not just a single use product. Something that will challenge them and maybe even grow with them for a while. I had heard of Discovery Toys before but had not had an opportunity to see first hand what they had to offer. Discovery Toys Educational Consultant Rebecca Moge and I have teamed up, with my kids and myself reviewing popular items, and helping you pick out durable toys this holiday season (lifetime warranty against defects). We tried out the Marbleworks…

Five on Friday: October 9
It’s Thanksgiving weekend in Canada so this week my Five on Friday will be Five Reasons I’m thankful for homeschooling. I am really learning who my children are, as well as more about myself. I’m learning about our personalities (as differing as they may be at times), learning styles, emotions and triggers. We can learn at our own pace. If it takes them a little while to catch on to reading, that’s ok. If we want to immerse ourselves in a topic, we can do that too My girls are remaining close. Instead of maybe growing apart if they were in separate classrooms all day, they playing dress up and…

Monday Menu: Oct 5
The temperatures around Edmonton have dropped the past few days, so time for some warm comfort food. Here are five ideas for the Monday Menu that will warm you up on these cold days. Chicken Alfredo and Caesar salad – I love the creaminess of alfredo sauce, and some mushrooms, red pepper and garlic added to the chicken will give it a nice burst of flavor Slow cooker roast and veggies – One of our favorites! Season the roast and add to slow cooker. Slice carrots and potatoes and add in around the roast. Mix a packet of onion soup mix and water and add enough till the veggies are…
