Monday Menu: November 30
Oh the weather outside is frightful so how about some slow cooker meals to warm you up! Here is this week’s Monday Menu with sweet, spicy and savory slow cooker dishes. Thai Coconut Chicken Soup – Spicy and sweet, this flavorful soup will warm you up on cold days. Spinach and Ricotta Manicotti – A side salad would go great with this cheesy pasta dish. Moroccan Turkey Meatballs – Savory meatballs to go on a bed of rice, couscous or quinoa or have them on naan bread. Brown Sugar Ham – This is my favorite way to cook ham. So sweet and delicious, and it goes well with mashed potatoes…

Neighbourhoods Around the World: A Visit to Edmonton
I am taking part in a blog series hosted by The Piri-Piri Lexicon entitled Your Neighbourhood Around the World. It’s a fascinating way of seeing a personal glimpse into neighbourhoods all over the globe. As a homeschooling family, it is also a great geography lesson, and we keep coming back to visit different areas. We are located in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, in a north side residential neighbourhood. As part of this series we need to include several aspects: a playground or play area, local mode of transportation, typical house or building, a street nearby, school or daycare, and an supermarket. An interesting fact about Edmonton is that we are…

YouTube Kids Is Here!
YouTube Kids was released in the US back in February, but it is now available in Canada! Also available in U.K., Ireland, Australia and New Zealand, this kid friendly version of the favorite app keeps out inappropriate content and had all the cool kids channels in one spot. There are ads (I have seen ones for toys and other shows so far), but my three year old even knows to click on the video after the time ticks down. In addition to loads of new to them content, I was happy to see some of their favorite channels and shows including Minecraft videos, Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood, CBC Kids, Cosmic Kids…

Monday Menu: November 23
We finally received our first big snowfall coming today and I’ll probably spend a few days hibernating at home while the roads get cleared off. Here is my Monday Menu for this snowy week. Honey Turkey and Pineapple – I had a few random things left before picking up groceries and decided to toss them together. The end result turned out great and everyone ate it up. I used ground turkey, diced red onion, a can of pineapple tidbits and peas, both drained, honey and seasoning, I added ginger and a bit of nutmeg. Add to rice or noodles if you like, I mixed in some honey garlic noodles. Chicken…

Turn Snack Time into Tea Time
With Edmonton’s Inaugural Outdoor Winter Parade this evening, the holiday spirit is growing in our house. What began as a late night snack request grew into a festive tea party last night. Today Chloe wanted to share the idea with her little sister so I prepared some snacks and treats for them to share at their tea party. Earlier this year we picked up our tea set from Ikea but there are also lots of cute tea sets on Amazon including this colorful one. Add some healthy snacks with some holiday treats, and the smiles were from ear to ear. Candy canes are high on the list of favorite holiday treats…

Build Your Library With Barefoot Books
Children’s books are addicting! From the bright colors and beautiful illustrations, to the silly stories and rhyming verses, I can never get enough. As a homeschool family, cuddling up with the girls on the couch during the day with a pile of children’s books or a new chapter book is always a favorite activity around our house. Barefoot books are gorgeous children’s books full of whimsical stories and tall tales that will encourage your child’s natural love of reading. I have teamed up with homeschooling mama and Independent Barefoot Books Ambassador Courtney Barnes to review some of my favorite Barefoot Books products. I Took the Moon for a Walk quickly…

Helping Your Sensory Child Have Fun This Holiday Season
I recently read that there are over 30 different festivals and observances during December so the holiday season is definitely an exciting time of year! Lights and decorations are going up, the malls are getting busier, Santa parades and visits are coming soon too. Lots for the little ones to see and do to make this time of year extra special. But what if your little one has sensory issues? All the things that some see as fun and exciting turn into loud and overwhelming very quickly for children that have Sensory Processing Disorder (SPD) or Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). We all want our kids to have a memorable holiday season,…

Toy Shopping Made Easy!
As the weeks of November quickly tick away and it nears closer to Christmas, the need to cross a few more gifts off your shopping list is growing. This year I’m aiming to have most of my shopping done before December, so I can spend quality time with the girls taking part in our family holiday traditions. I have teamed up once again with Discovery Toys Educational Consultant Rebecca Moge to review kid favorites, and help you complete your holiday shopping in no time. Two products the girls tried out this month were Playful Patterns® Heirloom Edition and Sky Spin, two more of Discovery Toy’s best sellers. To see my past review…
