Body Worlds: Animal Inside Out
Body Worlds is a hugely popular traveling science exhibit. It was in Edmonton just over 10 years ago at Telus World of Science. It was something I had wanted to see but I was pregnant at the time and I heard there was a section showing a fetus at various stages, so I wasn’t sure if I could handle that. I went anyway and I’m so glad I did! It was amazing to see inside a human body and also see what the baby inside me looked like at that stage.
Body Worlds is back at Telus World of Science from November 30 till the end of March 2019, but with a twist. Body Worlds: Animal Inside Out takes a unique look at what makes animals different from humans and from each other. You get an up-close look at their different muscle and bone structures, can compare different organ sizes between animals and humans, and learn lots of interesting biological and physiological animal facts.
From small domesticated animals to large exotic ones and everything in between, this exhibit is chock-full of learning opportunities. Telus World of Science Edmonton even has a handy activity sheet your children can fill out when they visit (download from their website).
Even though this exhibit is incredible, some may not find it so and it, therefore, comes with a caution for sensitive guests. Real human and animal specimens are on display including various organs that are part of the reproductive system. My 9 year old really enjoyed the exhibit (except the cat specimens since she’s a huge kitty fan) but my 6 year old was immediately creeped out upon entering. She did make it through two laps of the exhibit though, but I think it helped when we ran into friends.
Passes to see Body Worlds: Animal Inside Out would make a great experience gift for the holidays. You can find out more information and book your tickets on the Telus World of Science Edmonton website. For more photos from our visit, check out my Instagram page.
