Day 10: Thanksgiving and Thrift Store Finds

It was Thanksgiving Monday and I was thankful to have an extra day off work to get a few things done around home and to take the girls to pick out their Halloween costumes. While Kai was waiting for Chloe to wake up, she practiced her number tracing. Having learning tools accessible in the areas of the house that they frequent most means their curiosity can be encouraged and they learn on their schedule.

Day 10: Thanksgiving and Thrift Store Finds

After lunch we went out for costumes. I like going to the local thrift store where they have new costumes and second hand outfits great for dress up all year long. After deciding on their costumes, we picked out a couple dresses for dress up and found two puzzles to take home and try.  They spent the afternoon trying on costumes and dresses and pretend play. They took a break from that to bring me up a globe that needed battery replacement, and they went on to take turns and discover countries and cities.

After we filled up on Thanksgiving supper and pie, and listed off different things we were thankful for, we worked together on one of the thrift store finds – a puzzle of the flags of the world.  Kai helped pick out the side pieces before having a situation that required a shower.  Chloe continued on while I dealt with that and we all helped finish it up when we returned.  We love puzzles for improving fine motor skills and problem solving.  This one also came with a geography lesson and a mini math lesson as Chloe counted rows and columns to locate flags.
