Farmer’s Market Opening Days – YEG + Area
Edmonton is lucky to be having some lovely weather this spring, and farmers and vendors are gearing up for a new Farmer’s Market season. We love getting out in the sunshine to explore our local markets, picking up local produce and meat, baked goods and beautifully handcrafted and homemade items.
Here’s a list of opening days of some of our favorite markets in Edmonton and area:
Old Strathcona Farmer’s Market – Open year round – Saturdays 8am-3pm Sunday
Spruce Grove Farmer Market – April 9, 2016 – Saturdays 9:30am-1:30pm
Callingwood Farmer’s Market – May 1, 2016 – Sundays 10am-3pm & Wednesdays 2pm-6pm
Beverly Towne Farmer’s Market – May 10, 2016 – Tuesdays 4pm-8pm
124 Grand Market – May 12, 2016 – Thursdays 4pm-8pm
Southwest Edmonton Farmer’s Market – May 18, 2016 – Wednesdays 4pm-7:30pm
City Market Downtown – Open year round: October to May in City Hall, May 21, 2016 – Jasper Ave and 104 Street – Saturdays 9am-3pm
St. Albert Farmer’s Market – June 11, 2016 – Saturdays 10am-3pm
The Alberta Government has just released an app for Android and IOS that will make it easier to find information on local farmer’s markets. The app is only for Alberta approved farmer’s markets (approved by Alberta Agriculture and Forestry) and leaves off other public markets. For more information and for links to download the app, pleas visit the Alberta Agriculture and Forestry website here.
Made Urban has a great complete map of Farmer’s Markets in the Edmonton area, and although the one currently listed is for 2015 (still has lots of great information), be sure to check their website in the coming weeks for an updated one.
Another favorite resource of mine has been the Alberta Farm Fresh website and map. It is great if you’re on a road trip in Alberta and want to check out a local farm or u-pick. You can get their free guide on your mobile device as a downloadable web app, or you can order a paper copy to keep in your car.
So be sure to enjoy all the beautiful local markets and farms this year! You’ll find some tasty and unique items in your travels.
