Our Favorite Sand Free Playgrounds in YEG
Don’t get me wrong, I love sand, but it can stay at the beach. With the weather cooling down in Edmonton, flip flops, shorts and tank tops are being replaced with sneakers, pants, sweaters and jackets. One of my biggest mommy pet peeves is sand in shoes, clothes, hair, and everywhere else! Plus, back in the spring my daughter had a cast on her foot, so we went in search of sand free playgrounds so she could still play without it affecting her cast.
Recycled rubber is becoming the favorite choice when new playgrounds are being built. Here’s a list of our favorite sand free playgrounds in Edmonton.
Alberta Ave Park: 118 Ave and 93 St
Eaux Claires: 95 St and 165 Ave
Brintnell Park: Brintnell Blvd and 45 St
Mayfield Park: 159 St and 110 Ave, between Mayfield Elementary and Our Lady of Peace Elementary Schools
Hollick-Kenyon Park: 54 Street and 159 Ave
West Meadowlark Community League: 165 St and 93 Ave, with water features
Mary Finlay Park: 80 St and 102 Ave, with water features
Spruce Avenue School: 115 Ave and 102 St, with water features
Spruce Grove – Rotary Park: Not in Edmonton but definitely worth the drive! We discovered this playground last fall, so check out my previous post detailing all the cool features.
Honorable Mentions: These last two are not completely sand free but the sand is confined to small areas and they have really fun equipment to play on.
Poplar Park: 164 Ave and 87 St, behind Florence Hallock School
Elsinor Chambery Park: 176 Ave between 104 St and 107 St
So go out and explore sand free playgrounds this fall and don’t worry about the shoes full of sand being dumped out in the car or house!
