Road Trip Idea – New Dinosaur Museum

If you’re looking for a family road trip idea this fall, look north to Wembley, Alberta.  It is the site of the new Philip J. Currie Dinosaur Museum, open to the public on September 3, 2015.  Being only 19km west of Grande Prairie will make it easy to find accommodations for a fun weekend getaway.

You can learn about the dinosaurs found in the area before you go, by checking out Kids Zone on their website.  When you visit you can become a volunteer in the lab and clean fossils and bones. Or take part in one of the many interactive school programs. If you are feeling really adventurous, take a helicopter ride over the Pipestone Creek Bonebed. They will be having their black tie Amber Ball on September 26, 2015 to celebrate their Grand Opening.  Tickets are available on their website.

To learn a bit about who Philip J. Currie is and to get a glimpse of the new facility, check out this CBC News: The National’s video.

Tip: While in the area, check out Muskoseepi Park, Grande Prairie before getting back in the car for the drive home.  Let the kids run their sillies out and climb all over the North Bear Creek playground areas.
